Role: Principal 2D Artist
Fortitude Games is looking for an experienced and exceptionally talented Principal 2D Artist with a focus on concept art to join our team in Guildford and take our games’ polish and flair to a new level of excellence.
As a concept artist first and foremost, you’ll be working closely with the art director and the creative director to bring a vision to life, creating extraordinary concepts and assets ranging from characters to interior and exterior environments. You are flexible and able to set a high benchmark for the project’s artistic style and tone, inspiring others to do the same. You are an excellent communicator and a team player, able to solve creative problems and mentor more junior members on the team. Knowledge of game development processes and pipelines is a must.
We’re expecting to see a portfolio with good variation, showcasing an excellent understanding of anatomy, character design, colour theory, perspective, lighting and composition. We are looking for personalities excited by the chance to join a rapidly growing team and help us set and achieve a new standard of quality and efficiency.
Your primary role is to assist the art director in setting a high-quality benchmark for the artwork in our games, helping to develop the art style and creating characters, interior and exterior environments and accompanying scene objects.
You will create concept art as well as final assets in the style of the game (if the game is 2D).
You work closely with the creative director to create a captivating world with colourful characters that match the needs and tone of the game.
You play a key role in our games’ style and visual identity, ensuring and pushing for exceptional quality across all aspects of the art discipline.
You are able to assist and mentor more junior artists.
Skills and Requirements
You have a minimum of 5 years experience working in games
Excellent 2D art skills with a penchant for stylized work.
An excellent understanding of anatomy, character design, colour theory, perspective, lighting and composition.
Be able to design a variety of original concepts including: characters, interior and exterior environments and accompanying scene objects.
Be fluent working with digital media.
Be able to quickly render imaginative concepts from verbal and written direction.
Work well in and communicate ideas within a team environment.
Be a self motivated individual with a strong work ethic.
You are able to take sketches or concepts and render them to their final state, matching the tone and style of the game
If required, you are able to help and mentor the wider art team, ensuring a high level of quality artwork across the game
You have some experience in creating and updating style guides, ensuring consistent artwork across the game
You have experience working in console games and understand their pipelines and best practices
Experience in 3D is a plus
Experience working with Unity is a plus
